This is Awesome News Daily. I'm David Beach, finding stories, sharing stories, regardless of how I sound with stories like this. Okay, I still don't know the trick to getting my voice back. I do know it has something to do with cold air and chemo. I'm working on it. Thank you for your patience. Here's today's story. He squeezes poems from the same hours as his deliveries. Wang Jabing rides through the streets of Kunshan, China, with food orders strapped to his back and verses forming in his mind. And this year, he won China's Luzon Literary Prize, one of the country's highest literary honors. His collection, Low Flight, was built from the ground up, over 140 interviews with fellow delivery writers, 60 questionnaires, and a poet's attention trained on people the literary world rarely notices. The title poem opens with a quiet manifesto. Who says spreading your wings means you have to fly high? Wang dropped out of school as a teenager, worked instruction, scavenged waste, and never stopped reading. He has now published three collections and plans to keep working as a delivery writer for three more years. As he puts it, he loves the vibe and it keeps him fit. There is something clarifying about a man who wins a major prize and said the award will never change who he is. Wang's work belongs to a growing movement of blue-collar writers in China, reclaiming their own stories, and his hope is simple that readers will offer delivery writers a little more patience the next time a knock comes at the door. That's awesome news. I think I'm going to start writing poetry again. Now, for those of you who do not know, I did write a book of poetry, and it was basically to raise money for my cat who was going through some pretty expensive surgery. I think my mom bought most of the copies, but it's Fetzer's Tale, A Cat and Doggerl, which is available on Amazon if you look it up. It's a little pricier than I wanted it to be.
